Protection
Safeguarding people
At Dorcas, we are committed to safeguarding people and preventing and responding to harm and abuse. We ensure dignity and provide impartial support to those most at risk. Protection is at the heart of everything we do, guided by our strong commitment to the Do No Harm principle and Accountability to Affected Populations.

Our approach to protection
We proactively prevent and respond to physical, psychological and sexual harm, safeguarding women, children, older people, persons with disabilities, and households facing heightened vulnerability.
Our programmes combine targeted protection actions with broader interventions that reduce protection risks. We provide direct protection services such as:
- Awareness-raising sessions
- Psychological first aid
- Case management
- Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS)
Through community engagement, awareness-raising, and advocacy, we strengthen community-based protection mechanisms. This supports people in claiming their rights and enables communities to protect themselves.

From Oasis to Oases: a movement in Cairo
In one of Cairo's most marginalised communities, families live under constant strain from poverty, addiction, violence and social exclusion. Women and children are particularly affected, facing unsafe living conditions, limited access to education and healthcare, and an increased risk of abuse and exploitation.
Since 2014, the Oasis Community Centre of Dorcas, operated by our implementing partner Live Vision, has played a vital role in delivering multifaceted support. The centre specialises in family-based interventions that address the needs of the entire household.

Combating human trafficking in Romania
Human trafficking is one of the most pressing social issues in Romania, one of the top five EU countries in terms of victims. Dorcas Romania is tackling this issue through a comprehensive project focusing on awareness raising and prevention, building partnerships with stakeholders, handling direct cases and reducing the vulnerability of young people at risk.
