North Iraq Joint Response II

There are currently more than 3.1 million IDPs and 250.000 Syrian refugees in Iraq, of which approximately half of them are displaced in the North of Iraq.

The NIJR 2 which is an extension of the NIJR 1, is composed of 12 Dutch humanitarian organizations that aim to address the needs of Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Syrian refugees. The NIJR2 started on start on October 1, 2015 and will end on September 30, 2016.

All participating organizations have presence in North Iraq responding to the immediate needs of the people affected by the armed conflict. Most of the participating organizations also have a long track record in addressing both existing development needs as well as responding to increased humanitarian needs as a result of the ongoing violence and unfolding humanitarian crisis. The Joint Response thus provides much needed funds to harness existing development programmes and address additional humanitarian needs. All individual projects fall within the priorities set in the Strategic Response Plans 2014/15  and cover interventions in 5 main sectors: Food Security, Health, Protection, Shelter/NFIs and WASH.
